The Story of the Shepherd Boy

Deep within the enchanting rolling meadows, lived a shepherd boy. His being was pure, and unsophisticated. His only responsibility was essentially to look after his flock of rams.

Their low murmuring and the whispering of the wind through the single tree on the hilltop were his constant co-dwellers. Day upon day, watching over his charges instilled in him a notion of tranquil contentment.

However, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. On one such day out of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy orchestrated a mischievous plan.

Narratives of wolves prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a prank on the inhabitants.

One morning he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but discovered nothing threatening.

The boy chuckled at the confusion on their faces. This game continued for a few days more. However, one day, a real wolf actually attack the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but managed to protect only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the town only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of dishonesty.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the website implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms.
